This text contains five detailed sets of tools to support the learning, teaching and assessment of fundamental movement skills.

Tool 1: Fundamental Movement Skills Descriptors
Twenty-two skills are described and broken down into skill criteria. An Observation Record and suggested teaching ideas are also provided for each skill. Together, these enable teachers to gather information about a student’s achievement of a particular skill and to decide what further opportunities the student may need.

Tool 2: Assessment Strategies
A wide-range of assessment tools will provide teachers with many options for gathering information about students’ achievement of fundamental movement skills.

Tool 3: Learning Experiences for FMS
Both student-structured and teacher-structured experiences are described in detail and will provide teachers with many examples of how to use these learning experiences to develop fundamental movement skills.

Tool 4: Formats for Sharing Information
Teachers will find a range of practical ways to share information with students, parents, other teachers, the school and the community.

Tool 5: Stay in Step Screening Test
This screening test will provide teachers with
additional information about students having difficulty mastering fundamental movement skills.

Teachers can observe children performing in a smooth, co-ordinated manner as well as children yet to master seven fundamental movement skills (run, hop, jump throw, catch, kick, strike).
